Su Nuraxi

Barumini (SU)

Su Nuraxi di Barumini, not far from Cagliari, is an imposing Nuragic fortress. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, it is the most complete example of Nuragic architecture and an exceptional testimony to the building skills of Nuragic civilisation.

A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE FORTRESS

It stands at the foot of the Giara di Gesturi, in the territory of Barumini, where 26 Nuragic sites are documented.

Inhabited from the 14th century BC, the settlement of Su Nuraxi developed around a large fortress with a system of outer fortifications and a village that grew around the fortified core.

Today it is possible to see the keep, the four secondary towers of the bastion, the remains of the outer fortifications and numerous buildings of the village.

Since 1997, Su Nuraxi has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
